about me
hi, i’m somer - the gardener!
i come from a long line of plant lovers and growers. my great grandmothers passed down their green-thumbs and those plant obsessed thumbs finally found their way to me. i’m a wnc native, with south carolina southern roots. i work hard, i am reliable, always honest, and i am going to make sure i have a big beautiful garden that provides me with blooms and lots of produce all summer long. i have been in a garden since i can remember, pulling weeds, watching the birds, and just playing in the garden soil looking for worms. the garden is truly my favorite place to be.
i live with my lovely husband charlie, and our 2 cats, 2 dogs, beardie, bird, and now 2 baby goats!! in our garden, we grow a variety of produce, flowers, and medicinal herbs. each year we plan to expand and grow even more plants. this year we are making our crop variety even bigger and adding fruit trees to the mix.
in the garden
we strive to be ecologically conscience and sustainable; we typically don’t use pesticides and keep everything fairly organic and local. we source and harvest our wood for our garden beds from trees throughout wnc, thanks to my lovely husband and his tree crew, and then have the wood milled locally as well. all of the wood is sealed with a nontoxic wood sealant to keep our wood lasting as long as possible. the sealant makes it so we are able to use freshly processed wood and not wood treated with chemicals from a big box store. our garden gives a rustic look but it’s what we prefer. my first memory is of my grandmothers massive garden of raised beds that seemed like a maze to tiny me; so maybe you could say the garden style also runs in my family. we grow the majority of our plants from seed using locally purchased seeds or we support our local nurseries and greenhouses like painter’s greenhouse right here in old fort. we’re starting our first batch of early seeds in hopes to have produce and blooms before a little before they are typically ready. one day we hope to have one of those massive greenhouses - but until then you all will just have to wait patiently for the somertime goodies.
plant services
i have been offering garden maintenance services since july of 2022. i started with just two clients and have gained over a dozen regular maintenance clients since. it has been so rewarding, fun, and i have learned so much about growing in different microclimates throughout the mountains. everyone is different, like all plants are different - so learning each gardening style and client has also been a blast.
after hurricane helene hit our area i quickly realized i do not have to tools or equipment knowledge to tackle the majority of the garden tasks that are currently in need. i do still have so much to offer with my plant knowledge and gardening skill-set so i decided to restructure somertime maintenance into even more. alas, hi somertime was born.
i am now offering and accepting new clients for a variety of plant services from regular maintenance for indoor plants, to plant and garden coaching, to even growing seeds to be planted in your garden later on, and helping you plan your own garden. pretty much if it comes to a plant or the plant world - i want to help you achieve your plant dreams.
i appreciate everyone that has continued to support me and lift me up ‘til this point. i love the plant industry and really cannot wait to see what i grow into. ★
